Methane (CH4) is the principal component of natural gas and is primarily used as fuel to make light and heat. It is used by industries including pulp and paper, food processors, and petroleum refineries.
Methane-based combustion also helps businesses dry, dehumidify, melt and sanitize their products. Methane gas is flammable and should be monitored in enclosed or underground spaces such as mines and power plants. It also poses the danger of asphyxiation, as it displaces oxygen.
